CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) UPDATE

March 18, 2020


To our patients, family and friends:  We have all seen the impact on our daily lives that the coronavirus has had over the past few weeks.  During this time we have attempted to maintain some degree of normalcy by providing continuing care for the health of your eyes.   However, as the danger presented by the coronavirus continues to expand in our area, we have decided that in an effort to be vigilant and cautious for the health of our patients, staff and families, we will be restricting our patient hours to treat only emergent conditions of the eye. 

All routine eye exams, beginning today, will be rescheduled to a date which will assure that all of us will have the best opportunity to be healthy throughout this crisis.

During this time, if you have a prescription for glasses which has been filled and is in our office, we will notify you in order that arrangements may be made for pick-up or other delivery. 

If you are in need of a re-order of contact lenses, please email or call us with your request and we will have it sent directly to you.

If you have an emergency related to your vision, please call us so we may provide you appropriate direction.  

You may call us if you have any questions or concerns about your vision.  Otherwise, please continue to visit our website and Facebook page for more updates.

TELEMEDICINE AND CONTACT LENS UPDATE

I hope that you are all following the guidelines of the CDC for social distancing.  The full impact of the coronavirus is still ahead of us.  It is real.  It is new.  It is not the time for bravado or impatience.  One exposure by you can be passed to all of those loved ones around you before symptoms begin to show.  Being careful to wash your hands and to avoid touching your eyes, ears, mouth and nose are critical behaviors to help deny the virus an opportunity to find a host. 

We are doing our part to provide care for emergent conditions of the eye that may arise. If you have a problem, please call the office or email us with the complaint.  If necessary, we will attempt to schedule you to be seen in the office.  Please keep in mind that walk-in patients during this time are not permitted. Though our hours are reduced we will do our best to provide the care that is needed.

To assist in this process, I have installed a Telemedicine hub which will allow us to see you, though on a more limited basis, even though you may not be able to make it into the office.  Again, this is limited to emergency patients with acute conditions or complaints.  If you need this service, just call the office and we will direct you accordingly.

Contact Lenses:  for our contact lens patients we will continue to process orders for your contact lenses so that that you do not run out or low.  Be assured that during this time we will extend the prescription for orders placed through our office.  This can be done via telephone call or email to the office.  Orders, of course, will be subject to availability and confirmation of required patient information.   Orders may be shipped to you directly or scheduled for pick-up at the office.

OPENING AND PROCEDURES

June 3, 2020


We have opened!  But we are taking precautions for the safety of our patients, staff and families seriously.  We are following CDC and the NJ Optometric Association guidelines for safe practices to make sure that your eyecare can take place in a safe environment, including:


• All examinations and services are now by appointment only.


• We have eliminated our waiting room. Patients notify us of their arrival and they are cleared for entry by a staff member.


• Our staff is temperature checked and Pulse/O2 checked daily.


• Patients and staff are required to wear appropriate masks before entering the office.


• All examination equipment and contact surfaces is sanitized in between every patient.


• Hand sanitizer is available throughout the office.

• All eyewear on display has been sanitized and all selections that are worn/touched or tried on are sanitized between patients.


This is a difficult time for everyone.  We appreciate your patience and understanding...it is truly out of care, concern and respect for all of us that we have these procedures in place.
